It’s 7 a.m. on Easter morning. Junior Madison Gillam and her younger brother, Reece Gillam, rush down the stairs. They are excited to start their day full of Easter traditions. They see their Easter baskets that the Easter Bunny has kindly left on the coffee table. They rip them open to find candies, chocolates, and other goodies. The kids then go on an inside Easter egg hunt. Madison compares it to a witch hunt. They scramble throughout the house in search of eggs. However the eggs are hard boiled and real, they are not plastic. Madison and Reece had dyed the eggs with different colors and designs.
“I like finding real eggs,” Madison said. It is important that we find all of the eggs, because if we don’t they could break and stink up the house.”
However, Madison is not the only one that likes the egg aspect of Easter.
“Decorating the eggs is my favorite part of Easter,” Reece said.
When the search is over, the children get dressed for more of an eventful day. The family heads over the mother’s side of the family’s house to eat a breakfast feast. They even bring some of their recently found eggs to make deviled eggs. After they are done eating and visiting with their relatives, they go home. Once they get there they watch some T.V. and relax. At noon, the family then goes to the father’s side of the family’s house for a lunch.
“I enjoy Easter because I am around my family and I don’t get to see them all the time,” Madison said. “It is special. We get to have fun and eat food.”
All of these Easter traditions have been going on for a while. They started 18 years ago by Madison’s parents.
“My parents decided to go to both households because they enjoy seeing both of their families,” Madison said.
