Varsity Baseball played three games in two days for the Midwest Classic tournament. Friday, March 29, North went against Rockwood Summit twice, being defeated in both games, the first with a score of 5-1 and the second 4-0. Saturday, March 30, they lost a game to Westminster 7-0.
“The game against Westminster was the hardest game because we were coming off two hard losses [the previous day] and we didn’t come out focused and ready to play,” junior shortstop Andrew Curran said.
According to Curran, the team needs improvement on their hitting due to the fact that they only scored one run in three games.
“We can’t win if we can’t score,” Curran said. “The hardest part has been trying to keep everyone confident since we aren’t playing as well as we would like to be right now.”
In junior pitcher Danny Goggin’s opinion, all of the games played in the Midwest Classic tournament were difficult.
“We played against some real good ball clubs,” Goggin said. “The hardest part has been getting timely hitting, and our mental focus and batting needs improvement.”
Since the team North was scheduled to play against in the first game on Friday dropped out of the tournament, North had to play against Rockwood Summit twice instead of once.
“Rockwood Summit were close games and it was a pitchers duel,” senior third-baseman, Jake Shollar, said. “We need to improve on hitting in situations involving runners in scoring position.”
Although the results of the tournament were not what he had hoped for, Shollar still remains positive.
“Just being out on that field with my teammates in my last season of high school [was the best part of the tournament] ,” Shollar said.
