Early Saturday morning Mar. 30, the Varsity girls’ Soccer team headed to Soccer Park in Fenton to face Belleville West for their third game of the season. The team fell short after going into double overtime, then into penalty kicks, ultimately losing the battle during the final sudden death round ending the game with a score of 2-1. Thus, making this their third loss of the season. The loss could have been due to the recent snowstorm which impacted the team’s practice schedule.
“We would have to practice in the gym which made things a lot harder,” senior Christina Conley said. “We did eventually get to go to Howell and practice on turf, which made practice way more efficient.”
During the first half of the game North led with a score of 1-0, then toward the end of the second half the team started to fall behind letting Belleville tie the game. After double overtime, there was still a tie, forcing the team into going to a penalty kick round where they tied 3-3. After this the team went to the sudden death round where they ultimately lost 2-1.
“I think the first half of the game went very well, toward the second half we started to get tired and let them catch up,” Conley said.
For the next time, members are going to focus on finishing out the game strong and take all opportunities to improve their score.
“We play really good defensively, but we just need to finish out the game to improve our score, I myself will try to work on highballs to help the team,” senior Katie Martin said.
Members of the team were excited about the game, even though they lost. They used it as a learning experience.
“The best part of the game was getting to go into sudden death, because I have never done that before so it was really cool,” junior Alissa Hale said.
