FHN boys Tennis team participated April 5 in the Holt Invitational. This annual tennis match brings together different high schools around the area. Over the past several weeks, the tennis team has worked hard at practice to prepared for this important match.
“The hardest part about playing tennis is working hard and putting 100% everyday,” said Matt Dunn, sophomore at FHN.
The boys are divided into two groups, Varsity silver and gold. In each of these divisions, the boys Tennis team won several matches throughout the day.
“The most rewarding part of tennis is when you come back and win a match that you were down in,” Dunn said.
North won enough matches in the first round to qualify for Semifinals at Holt the following day.
Raymond Che, a junior at north, has been playing tennis for four years. He was very happy with how he played and is excited to go to Holt to play in the semifinals. Working hard at practice, Che is confident in the teams ability to do well this season.
“I am not going to lie,” Che said, “We have a pretty great team this year and I am confident of what we can do.”
For most of his life, Dunn has been on the courts. Since he was eight years old, Dunn has always been on the courts. Happy with his performance, Dunn is excited to move on to Holt.
“I really didn’t prepare any differently for this meet,” Dunn said. “I just went out there and played how I knew I could.”
Being less experienced than the others, it is Jake Neiner’s first year playing tennis and he is already moving along with the team. Though new to tennis, Neiner is trying to catch up quick. He reports that he sleeps with his racket for good luck now.
“I wanted to play a sport that was all me,” Neiner said “ if i lose, it’s on me and me only, no one else to blame.
According to Che, the team seems to really help each other and push each other at the meets.
“The feeling you get when your whole team is cheering you on as you play makes it all worthwhile,” Che said. “All your stress just turns into excitement.”
