Senior FHN student Braxton Perry has recently been the recipient the 2013 University of Missouri-St. Louis Bound Scholarship. Perry and two other Francis Howell School District students have received this scholarship of $12,000 to attend UMSL as an incoming Freshman.
“College is very expensive and I am glad I got this scholarship,” Perry said.
The scholarship comes from the UMSL Advanced Credit Placement program that runs here at FHN. To qualify for the scholarship students must be accepted to the university, complete the entire UMSL Bound Scholarship Application, submit a 500 word essay, submit two letters of recommendation, and have taken at least one Advanced College Credit course through UMSL. Perry received the ACP credit by taking Calculus here at FHN.
“I say the ACP program here at North was totally worth it,” Perry said.
The two other FHSD students receiving the scholarship were Rachel Eikmann, senior at Francis Howell Central and Caroline Ryan, senior at Francis Howell High School. Before this year there has been a total of five FHN students recieving this scholarship; one in 2007, two in 2008, and two in 2009. The scholarship is a real honor to Perry.
“I am very excited for this scholarship and can’t wait for college,” Perry said.
Perry is going to use the scholarship to major in Pharmacy in college. He cannot complete this at UMSL, so he will transfer somewhere once he receives his Pre-Pharmacy major at UMSL. Perry is going to also minor in chemistry but really wants to go through college to focus on becoming a true man in his life.
“In college I am looking to focus more on what I want to do with my life. I really just want to focus more on becoming a man,” Perry said.
