This year’s 4.0 Luncheon for seniors was hosted on April 11, 2013 at St. Peters’ Old Hickory Golf Club. Students were allowed to leave school at 10 a.m., as the luncheon began at 10:30 a.m.
“It was nice to leave school early because I could take a well-deserved break from classes,” senior Laura Tran said.
Right around 10:30 a.m., FHSD Superintendent Pam Sloan welcomed everyone and gave a speech, followed by the lunch. Everyone was served grilled chicken, creamy pasta, salad, steamed vegetables, bread and butter, and marble cake.
“I thought the food was very good,” senior Maddie Eifert said.
After lunch, the head principals of each FHSD school gave a speech. Howell Central’s principal, Dr. Sonny Arnel, told the students that they are not Spartans, Vikings, or Knights, but, rather, Spar-Ight-Kings.
“I thought Dr. Arnel’s speech was really clever,” senior Nathan Rhomberg said. “I liked what he said about everyone being on the same team and not competing with each other.”
When each principal had spoken, the students at the luncheon were called up in alphabetical order to receive special medals.
“Usually recognition events like the 4.0 luncheon have something like a medal or certificate given out, so it wasn’t a surprise to me; I was expecting it,” Tran said.
The award ceremony ended right around 1 p.m., and, according to Eifert, it was a successful afternoon.
“The luncheon was very nice because all of the Howell School District was together and we got to hear from the different principals,” Eifert said. “I would definitely go again.”
