The FHN Varsity boys volleyball team was victorious once again April 17 at their home game. They played against last year’s dominant state contenders, Fort Zumwalt South, beating the Bulldogs in the first two games. Both games were relatively close, but FHN came out on top.
“It felt good because we haven’t played like that all year. To beat a team like that motivates us to strive for more and to play even better than we did,” sophomore Scott Oppenborn said.
The boys won their first game 26-24 and their second game 25-23 ending the match before a third game.
“Beating them in the second game was a good boost. We needed it and it made us all feel like kids in the candy store,” sophomore and Varsity swinger Kevin Rudberg said.
The boys on the team claimed that their biggest challenge was getting out of a mindset of FZS being an elitist level volleyball team due to their typical level of play last year.
“Our concern was getting in a slump, or letting them get too far ahead, which would result in a loss. We played one point at a time over and over, and found ourselves the victory,” junior player Logan Bergman said
The next game the Varsity team will play is going to be next Tuesday, April 23 at home against Fort Zumwalt East.
