For this years Rams team there were many people wondering how the Rams were going to do for the upcoming draft. In past years, before new GM Les Snead and new Head Coach Jeff Fisher took over, the Rams have been terrible with their draft selections. To me I think the Rams front office is finally starting to hit all the right notes.
Last year for the 2012 NFL Draft, Snead and Fisher did wonders with their draft selections, drafting playmakers like CB Janoris Jenkins (39th overall selection), WR Chris Givens (96th overall selection), K Greg Zuerlein (171st overall selection), and RB Daryl Richardson (252nd overall selection) who all made tremendous impacts on the ‘12 season for the Rams.
This year the Rams did not hold back trading up eight spots to grab West Virginia WR Tavon Austin. I completely agree because Austin is one of the most dynamic players I have ever seen. He uses his speed, shiftiness, and his football smarts when he plays. Austin will play a major role in for the Rams because of QB Sam Bradford tends to like to throw it short and let plays happen. Also Austin is not just a receiver, he can many other things like play running back and is even a huge threat on special teams taking 5 kickoffs/punts for touchdowns in his collegiate career. Some people say that Austin won’t be able to handle the NFL because he is only 5’8” and weighs in at about 174 lbs. I refuse to believe that because in the past eight years during his high school and collegiate career he has never missed a single game or practice.
The Rams did a great job filling in their needs as they also brought in the arguably the best linebacker in the draft Georgia Bulldog Alec Ogletree, also picking up their safety and lineman of the future USC safety T.J. Mcdonald, and Alabama center Barret Jones.
This is the best draft that I have ever seen by the St. Louis Rams, and I think that if we want to compete for an NFC championship title or even a super bowl, this will be the year to do it. I have never been so excited about a Rams team.
