- After months of preparation, Mr. FHN took place on Friday, May 3 in FHN’s auditorium. Mr. FHN is an event put on by Student Council (StuCo) every year, and the money that the contestants raise in the weeks before the pageant goes to charity. 11 students, all of which were juniors or seniors, and one principal, Andy Downs, participated in this year’s event. Contestants solicited money from students, faculty, family, and even some business in order to raise money for The American Cancer Society. This year, $1,746.50 was collected overall.
The pageant began with a group dance and then following the dance each contestant performed in four different categories: casual wear, formal wear, question and answer, and talents. The boys took on a variety of talents from ribbon dancing, to rapping, to making a sandwich.
“My favorite part was when [John Hallemier] made a sandwich because it was so random and funny,” freshman Abbey Mills said.
Contestants were scored based on their answers during the Q & A portion, their talents, their personality, and their charisma on a scale of one to five. The amount of money they raised also played a part in the scores they received.

“I always like the question and answer part,” StuCo sponsor Jani Wilkens said. “The judges always come up with such funny questions.”
This year, second runner up went to Hallemeier, first runner up went to Zach Ksiazek, Mr. Congeniality went to Downs, and junior Ali Farhadi won the title of Mr. FHN and the $100 grand prize.
“[Winning Mr. FHN] is the best feeling in the world,” Farhadi said. “ I can’t even describe it. It’s been a dream of mine since sophomore year and it just feels great.”
At the very end of the show the emcees called Darlene Jones up to the stage where they then awarded her with the first ever Mrs. FHN title and gave her a bouquet of red roses to thank her for the time that she has dedicated to North. Many of the people that went to the show found it overall highly entertaining and were impressed by the talent each of the contestants brought.
“It was awesome,” Wilkens said. “I was especially impressed by the fact that we have truly talented guys and not just a lot of guys who can eat like three bottles of syrup or something gross. These guys really have talent.”
