Last night, the Varsity girls’ Soccer team beat rival Howell Central 1-0 on Senior Night.
After defeating Central last night, the Lady Knights have a record of 15-11-1, with Districts coming up on May 11. The next game is tonight at 6 p.m. against Parkway Central.
“I am hoping to be able to continue our season as long as possible,” senior Kayla Welch said. “I trust that the team’s hard work and chemistry can possibly carry us far and be successful at the end of the season.”
Including Welch, there are six other graduating seniors on the soccer team this season: Catie Blake, Christina Conley, Allie McDonell, Katie Martin, Jordan Stobart, and Hali Long. Senior Night was planned by all the underclassmen.
“It was absolutely perfect,” Conley said. “The underclassmen did such a great job putting it all together.”
Five minutes before the game, the seven seniors were announced by senior Nathan Rhomberg. They walked with their parents and were handed flowers from their teammates.
“When my name was announced it felt unreal,” Conley said. “When my bio was read I wasn’t even listening, I was just thinking a combo of, ‘Don’t trip, don’t trip and I can’t believe it.’”
