Although the Girl’s Golf team lost to Timberland last year, they haven’ t given up. During the off-season, they didn’t practice as a team but some went out on their own and practiced while others took lessons to improve their golf game. The team prepared for their first game against Timberland which was on Sept. 4, at 3:30 p.m. at Bogey Hills Country Club.
“We all have our own individual goals. Mine is to get my score down to a 50, but as a team our goal is to be getting into the Detroit Tournament,” said senior Tiffany Metts.
Metts believes that one of the team’s strengths last season was that there was good communication between them. Since golf is a more individual sport and everyone is competing against everyone, she says that she was surprised that there were no disagreements.
Metts likes golf for multiple reasons. “You don’t really have to be super athletic to play, it’s more of like mental strategy.” she said. “I like that.”
Another aspect of golf that she likes is the way that the game is played overall. “I like that each hole is like a new game,” adds Metts, “You might do bad on one hole but you can do really good on the next one and it doesn’t matter.”
