The Varsity Girl’s Tennis team is 2-0 this season, winning against both Troy and Holt. The team hopes to continue the streak by defeating Howell this Wednesday, Sept 11.
“This match is important because Howell is our biggest rival so we have to bring our A game in hopes to win,” Junior Rachel Mecklenberg said.
The match will consist of singles and doubles competing and whichever team has the most wins, takes the match as a victory. The tennis team was defeated by Howell last year in GAC’s. According to freshman varsity player Haley Bradt, she has been going to practice everyday after school and playing after practice to prepare herself for this match.
“[Howell] is usually good every year and we need to do well against them to have a good overall record to win our conference,” Senior Megan Oostendorp said.
State champion of singles competition, Risa Takenaka, is preparing for the match against Howell by relaxing and taking it easy. Risa and her sister Yuri, who is a freshman at North this year, have been starting off the season well, occasionally playing doubles together.
“[The season] has been fun, we fight occasionally but it’s definitely exciting having a sister on the team,” Takenaka said “I’m looking forward to a challenging match.”
The match will be held at Francis Howell High School around 3:30 p.m. on the tennis courts.
