This past weekend, the Francis Howell North Marching Band had a double header at Belleville East and at the O’Fallon Township in Illinois. The Band placed second overall at Belleville East and fourth overall at O’Fallon. The band performed “The Boxer” at both shows. Color Guard received Best Auxiliary at both shows.
“I felt pretty good about the competitions all around,” Tanner Gunnett, the Mellophone Section Leader said. “We placed okay and it gets nerves out of the way for our upcoming competitions.”
According to Gunnett, the band did well but need to improve on the visual aspect of their show and improve on their timing and footwork. Again, they received an outside opinion of their show from judges who all gave good critiques on what they need to improve on and some compliments on their musical performance.
“We have to work on our feet,” Aaron Harmon, Trumpet Section Leader said. “Our marching wasn’t as good as it could’ve been.”
According to Sammie Savala, the Saxophone Section Leader, the Band scored only three points less than a band that is three times bigger than FHN’s Band.
The Band’s next performance is next Saturday, Sept. 21, at Saint Charles West High School. They will be playing alongside 24 other bands.
“I’m definitely excited for it,” Savala said. “We’re going to kick some butt.”
