DECA members took a field trip Tuesday to City Hall in St. Peters. The events included a guest speaker seminar, a trip to Mid Rivers Mall, and business ethics activities. Any DECA member was welcome, and the cost was $10. The members even got to eat lunch at the Mall, and had the opportunity to go shopping.
“I learned about life experiences and like how to apply marketing skills to everyday life,” junior Sarah Jackovich said. “Going to the mall with everyone for lunch was really fun too.”
The guest speaker was Charles Johnson, who talked about how leadership influences everyone. The kids also got the opportunity to participate in a group activity. They did a leadership group activity with all of the DECA members from the area, and worked on creating 15 different products ut f popsicle sticks and established a marketing plan for “buyers”.
“We learned about business motives and listened to a guest speaker,” junior Andy Hickerson said. “Listening to the guest speaker I learned about what DECA is and more about the business world.”
The trip was meant to increase the members’ knowledge of business ethic, and marketing in the real world. It was also a chance to meet new people and experience new things.
“I wanted the kids to learn some networking skills and working with people they didn’t know, and increase their leadership skills,” DECA Sponsor Mike Freedline.
