This Thursday, the varsity softball team will be taking on Howell for the second time this season.
“I think that we will come out strong against Howell because we have been doing well lately,” Freshmen Audrey Baker said.
The team recently more than doubled their win total last weekend, winning the Francis Howell Central Invitational. The team faced St. Charles, Washington, and then Central in the championship game in which they won with a walk off hit 7-6. The team’s current record is 6-11. The girls now have their sights set on beating their rival school, Francis Howell High. They have been working on specific things to make their overall game play better.
“One of the major areas that we are trying to focus on is the area of not giving up big innings to the opposing team and not giving away at bats in crucial situations,” Coach Bob Dunahue said.
The team hopes to win this rematch against Howell which is the most important game in their regular season according to some of the players. The last time the Knights took on the Vikings was Sept. 16, where they had lost 7-3.
“We have been playing really well lately. Howell does not like playing us because we have knocked them out of districts a couple times,” Dunahue said. “I think the girls will do well.”
The game is scheduled at Francis Howell North at 4:15 on the softball fields.
