On Oct. 1, the FHN swim team will compete against the brand new Liberty swim team. The FHN team, consisting of 13 members, is expected to win their potentially second meet this year, against the relatively inexperienced, 6 member team of Liberty.
Z“I’m extremely excited for this meet. We have to keep the drive, and the confidence up. We can do this for sure,” senior Zac Fletcher said.
After primarily focused on rebuilding an almost nonexistent team from last year, FHN boys swim has been more competitive in their meets. The boys have been experiencing longer, and harder sets, diversifying and working on technique in their strokes and filling as many events as possible this year. At every meet so far this year, the team has been consistent time drops. Almost every member performs better in the same event than they had the meet before.
“I’m really proud of the boys. Their hard work is paying off and that’s good – it should be. They practice late at night, and every night, and make sure to try as hard as they can,” manager Maggie Torbeck said.
Going into the meet, the boys know little about Liberty as it is a new school this year, and entirely composed of freshman. The goal is to win the meet and better improve their season statistics.
“I’m highly motivated for the next meet. If we win one, we can win the next, and the next, and the one after that,” freshman Ryan Fischer said.
