The varsity softball team will be playing Hazelwood West High School this Friday, October 4 at 4:15 p.m. at FHN. Friday will be a big night for the team as it is their last home game before districts and it is also teacher appreciation night.
“I always look forward to winning,” senior left fielder, Abigail Griffin said, “and it’s cool to have everyone’s favorite teachers come to the game and get honored.”
Teacher appreciation night is a night where every player chooses to invite their favorite teacher to the game. Each player writes a nice note about their teacher that gets read over the speakers, then all the teachers get honored and receive a little trophy.
“It’s cool that the teachers stay to watch so you get to show them your talent,” senior third baseman, Jessica Moceri said
Softball has an overall record of 7-12 this season and is looking forward to adding another win against Hazelwood West this friday.
“We’ve been preparing for it pretty much the same as we do for every game,” Griffin said, “We’re hoping to get a winning streak going leading into friday and districts next week. The games we have all week will prepare us for friday.”
FHN beat Hazelwood West last season and is hoping to win again this season. The team has improved on minimizing errors, hitting average, and going out with a good attitude according to Moceri. Some players have been staying after games and practices to get more hitting and fielding in.
“We need to come out as strong as we can and never give up no matter what the score is,” sophomore shortstop, Austine Pauley said.
