The world language clubs combined forces to host Oktoberfest, and to celebrate the German foreign exchange student’s last days at North. Oktoberfest was held in the commons from 6-8 p.m.. Activities included raffles, musical chairs, and music from both cultures. “It was fun in the end,” Foreign exchange student Katja Schnabel said. “It was a bit slow in beginning because no one was doing anything. It was okay in the end.” Some exchange students were pleasantly surprised by the prices of things in America, especially shoes. A pair of Converse cost around 45 dollars in America, they can easily cost twice as much in Germany. Some students were also treated to their first taste of s’mores, as graham crackers are not readily available in Germany. I liked the shopping malls,” Katja said. “Because they were less expensive than in Germany. And all the people were really nice.” The 15 foreign exchange students arrived on the first Friday of fall break. Students had been communicating with their exchange students since late last school year. The foreign exchange students came from Ludwigsburg, a city in southern Germany. The students shadowed the Knights for three school days. Their flight home is scheduled for early Thursday morning. The roles will be reversed when students from North visit Germany in June.
