On Saturday, Nov. 2, the hockey team will start their season off with the Gold Cup game against the Howell Vikings. The game will be played at the St. Peters Rec-Plex south ice arena.
“I think the team will do really good because we have really strong and talented players,” sophomore and fan, Abby Rapplean said. “They are really good competitors.”
The game is a fundraiser to help raise money for the team. The hockey team has been participating in the Gold Cup for 20 years. The Knights are the defending champions of the Gold Cup. According to senior Kyle Kateman, the team has high hopes of defending their title.
“I think [the game] will give us confidence because we won last year and it will start off the season good,” said Kateman.
The Knights have their first official game of the season later on in the month. Last year, the team ended their season last year with 12 wins and 13 losses. According to the team, winning the Gold Cup would be a glimpse of how the season will be.
“Usually when you win [Gold Cup] it starts off the season with a good attitude, and points the team in the right direction,” coach Paul Brummer said. “It will also give us an idea of how we will play against teams later on in the season.”
