The girls varsity volleyball team played their senior night game on Thurs, Oct. 24 at 6:00 p.m. defeating Hazelwood West at FHN.
“It really hasn’t hit me yet that the season is coming to an end, it’s so sad because I’ve been playing for 8 years and there’s always been that second home and family I belonged to, “ senior Kayla Andrejewski said. “ I will never forget the memories I’ve made with all the girls I’ve ever played with, it’s been an exceptional journey especially with my seniors.”
The Lady Knights defeated Hazelwood in two games. The first game score was 25-12, and the second game score was 25-13. This was one of only two wins the team has had at home. The team starts districts next Mon, against Fort Zumwalt East at Parkway North.
“Each senior class has their own personality and this one was a very tight knit group,” coach Robin Yuede said.”We’ve had group 4, 5, 6 girls before but these guys are friends on and off the court.”
This was their last home game of the season. After the JV game ended, senior players were escorted out by their parents onto the court.
“We’ve improved so much throughout the season, we found out how to not only believe in ourselves but to believe in each other,” Andrejewski said. “We really have became so close, I wouldn’t want to spend my senior year with any other group of girls.”
Each senior wrote a speech about their volleyball career over the past four years and was read by Mr. Stover as they walked out. They were each gifted with a medal, crown, and flowers.
“It’s really bittersweet, bitter because I will miss seeing these girls everyday, but sweet because a new chapter of my life is just beginning,” senior Sofia Quintana said.
