FHN students go to National Journalism Convention
With the help of their advisors, 22 students are taking a trip
to Boston, Massachusetts on Nov. 14-17.
” What I’m looking forward to most is to bonding with the rest of the pub kids who are going, ” senior Fionna Cruz said. ” They’re a funny group of people and I can’t wait. ”
In Boston, the fall National High School Journalism convention will be taking place where multiple awards will be given out. FHN submitted their newspaper, yearbook, broadcast, and webpage for best of show. Some students got the opportunity to individually send in their own work ahead of time for the write off competition. Last year, Cruz won an award in San Francisco for her write off.
” I’m most looking forward to seeing how our newspaper places in the Best of Show competition because we all worked really hard on the paper we’re submitting, ” senior Maddie Hiatt said. ” And it’d be cool to see our hard work pay off. ”
During the day time the advisors and students will be listening to speakers talk and will be learning all sorts of new things to help them in the future, but during the night is when they get to go sight seeing all around Boston.
” One of the things I like most about these trips is that it’s 5,000 plus student journalist and their advisors all getting together to learn from each other and have a good time. ” Manfull said.
