The FHN Knights Wrestling team will be returning this year with many new comers and underclassman.
This year they have a much younger team, having lost all the seniors from the previous year which include Jeremiah Reed and Sean Smalls and Robbie Springman. It will be made up of fresh new faces in the line-up that people haven’t seen before.
“They call that a rebuilding year.” head coach Harold Ritchie said.
Two returning varsity players are Junior Zak Davlin and Junior Sam Ritchie, who qualified for state two years in a row.The heavyweight division will also see returning Junior A.J. Lozada and Senior Danny Goggin. In Junior Varsity, Kaleb Bell and Chad Hayse will also be joining back up with the team.
“I’m pumped for this season,” Bell said “I just want it to start already, so I can get better and win.”
The schedule for the season is typical for the team, it holds up to the certain amount of meets it should have. The biggest matches will be the State Tournament, their rivalry meet between them and the other Howell schools, and GACs. GACs being their prime focus.
“GACs is what we work towards so it’s obviously going to be the biggest one,” new JV Wrestler, Michael Moore said.
This season the boys will not only have to prepare mentally, but physically as well. They’ll have to eat right, listen,go against bigger people than them, and work harder than they ever have before .They have worked in the off-season doing workouts during the summer and spring in the weight- room.
“I want success,” Hayse said,“I like winning, this stuff matters to me.”
Looking at this season, the boys’ think they will succeed and gain what they want. Dominating their opponents and coming out on top. The coaches think they can win as well, and would never doubt that but think it will take everyone to come into that practice room each day, and walking out, remembering what they learned and using it.
“It will take a small miracle” Ritchie said.
