From Nov. 18 through the 22, KOE will be sponsoring the nationwide-celebrated American Education Week. KOE will sponsor theme days where teachers will dress up and compete in fashion shows every morning for the chance to win different gift baskets and gift cards.
“Teachers take a lot of time out of their lives to make sure we’re all safe and properly educated,” sophomore KOE member Mackenzie Schlogl said. “They don’t make a big fuss, they’re just nice people and they should be rewarded.”
Teachers are sent emails detailing the theme days for the week, including Monday Bumday, and Wacky Wednesday. About 50 percent of teachers will choose to participate, and those that do will be given raffle tickets to use to win prizes.
“The best part of the week is every morning when the teachers get to show off their fashions at the fashion show,” Senior KOE member Catherine House said. “It’s a lot of fun for the teachers and for the students in KOE.
The teachers are grateful that once a year KOE provides them with a week that allows them to be appreciated for all the work that the do for their students.
“I think there are many days, especially when you teach high school age kids that teachers can feel unappreciated,” English teacher Jani Wilkens said. “Little kids give you more compliments, but as kids grow up they see education as mandatory so they are less appreciative of what their teachers do behind the scenes.”
