FHN JV girls basketball held tryouts after school on Nov. 4-6 and started practicing right away for their first game of the season which will take place on Monday, Dec. 2. They hope to come home and start the season off with a win.
“We all work really hard. Practices are fun, but we can be serious when we need to and I feel like this season is going to be a good one,” sophomore Julia Crets said.
The girls had their very first Jamboree ever on Nov. 22 where the varsity team played against Festus, St. Charles West and Francis Howell Central. Each game had two six-minute halves. The girls left the Jamboree feeling good winning two out of their three games with wins over Festus and Central.
“It was really fun to watch and get a feel for what the rest of the season will be like,” sophomore Madi Oostendorp said, “Being a manager I have to go to pretty much every game and it would make it a lot better if the games weren’t boring, which I don’t think it will be if all the games are like the ones they played there.”
The girls said they had a pretty good season last year but they hope to improve even more over this season and beat the Francis Howell girls basketball team, which is one of the best teams in their league according to some.
“I feel like if all the teams practice hard we won’t have too much of a hard time beating some of the harder teams. It’s good to have fun and to bond with the girls you play with so you can have some chemistry on the court, but you also have to be serious and focused and I know we can do that,” Crets said.
