The varsity girls basketball team plays Timberland high school tonight at 6:30 in the main gym. The girls hope to come out with a win, as tonight is their first home game of the 2013-2014 season.
“I think if we keep our focus and play as a team we can win this game,” sophomore Austine Pauley. “I hope we can go home with a win for our first home game, the feeling of winning itself is so good, but winning in front of people you know like your friends and family that come to watch is even better.”
The girls have played Timberland before in past games and tournaments, and even though they know how they play and have an idea of what they have in store for them, they say they cannot let their guard down.
“We know how they play and what they’re capable of but that doesn’t mean we can just lose focus and play sloppy,” sophomore Maci May said. “Sometimes teams will play down to other teams levels when they’re confident they will win, but when people get too cocky sometimes they let down their guard and end up losing and we can’t do that.”
Even though the girls do feel confident going into this game, none of them feel as if themselves, nor the other girls on the team, are overly confident or cocky. They all believe that everyone will be focused and try their hardest to come out on top, but they also want to have fun.
“Even though we do want to win, if you’re not enjoying it then it sucks the awesome feeling of winning out of it all,” senior Anne Reiner said. “We try to play our hardest and have fun at the same time because it makes it so much easier to play as a team when everyone is in a good mood on the court.”
