On Friday Dec 6. FHN’s varsity Lady Knights basketball team won the championship game at the Orchard Farm tournament.
They defeated Granite City high school by one basket with the final score being 57-55. The varsity team had a record of three wins and zero losses
“I felt really happy after the game because we were able to stick with it the entire game,” junior Sierra Teuscher said. “It was a really big accomplishment for our team and it boosted our level of confidence and trust in each other.”
The varsity team had a record of three wins and zero losses throughout the entire tournament held at Orchard Farm High School. Varsity Lady Knights had been in the lead up until there was one minute left in the fourth quarter. The opposing team was up by one point.
“That’s when they fouled us and we made both free throws, tieing up the game,” Coach Matt Watson said.
“Then they turned it over and Madison Gillam made the winning basket with about three seconds left in the game.”
The only negative that occurred during the game was allowing Granite City to begin and almost succeed at making a comeback. Other than this, the varsity Lady Knights had a successful game and tournament. The tournament also revealed a new strength that the team has.
“In this tournament we realized that regardless of who we out in the court, they are capable of doing well and I have enough confidence in them to carry through,” Watson said.
This was the varsity basketball girl’s first tournament and it ended with much success. Coaches and players alike feel that this has boosted their confidence and look forward to the rest of their season and what they will achieve.
“I’m really excited for the season and how it will play out,” junior Cynthia Cahall said. “ I think that this was a really good start to our season and it boosted our confidence for upcoming games.
