His fingers fly across the keyboard on his phone in attempt to get the message out there. “White gets five straight points to make it a 12 point game.” It’s a simple, yet important, tweet. Accuracy is everything. Meet David McFeely, the senior with a passion for sports of all varieties. Some may know him as the face behind @FHNtodayLive, a twitter account that tweets out live FHN sports games.
“It started out as my first project in newspaper,” McFeely said.” I tried it out and ever since then I’ve been addicted to it and I just love letting people know what’s going on.”
Since first tweeting for the varsity boys’ football game against Vianney back in the fall, McFeely has done live tweeting for a wide range of games from football to soccer attempting to make it to as many games as possible. Four months and 845 twitter followers later, David is still going strong. According to David, he has received a lot of positive feedback from those who follow the @FHNtodayLive account.
“A lot of people keep saying “I love how you tweet, I feel like I’m actually at the game” and I just love hearing that,” McFeely said. “I love that I can tell people what’s going on if they aren’t able to go or if they’re busy. It just makes me feel fantastic.”
Even though McFeely feels that ultimately it’s best if fans actually attend the game, he feels like if they can’t he is able to provide them with the next best thing for many of the games. He keeps up with the sports game’s schedules by frequently checking the activities calendars and also talking to the coaches about upcoming games. Because McFeely is a senior this year his main goal is to continue live tweeting for the different sports, gain at least 1,000 followers total on the @FHNtodayLive account, and to also train someone else to carry it on into next year to keep the student body up to date on the things he loves: sports..
“I can’t explain it,”McFeely said. “I was raised a sports fan, I’ve loved sports since then and I just can’t get enough.”
