Love The Lou is a group of St. Louis citizens who love their city and wish to bring unity and identity to all of the diverse neighborhoods. I was downtown shooting a story on Meghan Norris, a girl that attends Harvester Christian Church, Love The Lou. While I was there I got the opportunity to listen to Jamel.
Jamel is a twelve year old boy from downtown St. Louis. He shares the story of his neighborhood and talks about difficult times that he has experienced in his life. In the video Jamel never shows any kind of a sad emotion. He will go from talking about how he plays wii with his friends, to his best friend who was shot and killed. His tone of voice has very little change if any.

It has been over 33 years since I heard the accent this lad has. His pronunciation of here as “heur.” It is very endearing to me. As a youth I heard it in the voice of some one that was very close to me in St. Louis. I’ve never heard it any place else until now again. I can only imagine it is a very STL accent. I’d never given it much thought until now. The lad’s retelling of his surroundings are a testament to the natural ability to endure hardship and at the same time a testament to the horror that is our inability to redesign our country so as to not deliver innocence into auto destruction.
