On Tuesday Jan. 7, the Francis Howell North Knights wrestling teams will be preparing to face off against the Fort Zumwalt West Jaguars in
an all-level meet.
As the boys prepare, for what will be only the second home meet of the season, junior Bo Nixon is feeling confident.
“Our line-up is getting more and more solid every day and all the younger guys are getting better and better. I think we’re really going to surprise some people,” Nixon said.
And they’re confident for good reason. With the season’s record standing at 15-8 and several wrestlers placing at recent tournaments the team feels they are in a good place.
“I took second and sixth in the last two tournaments,” said Nixon “Its all progress towards my goal of getting to state this year.”
“We’re in a great place to keep winning as long as we all keep believing in ourselves and doing what we do best,” junior Aj Lozada said.
But it’s not just varsity feeling confident.
“We’ve got a great freshmen team with strong wrestlers and some really solid guys on jv. Everyone is gonna do awesome,” Lozada said.
The meet will begin at 6:00 with the freshmen and jv teams going on at the same time and then followed by varsity. The wrestlers compete in order of weight class, with the lightest going first.
“About halfway through the underclassmen matches us varsity leave to go focus and get a good sweat going. I like to visualize and listen to music to block out all the distractions,” Nixon said.
