The Polar Plunge takes place in many areas all around Missouri. At this event, you and many other people run, walk, crawl, etc. into freezing waters.
“I think the Polar Plunge would be an awesome thing to be a part of,” sophomore Nathaniel Kaatman said. “Not only would it be so fun to do, but it’s also for a really good cause, and to be a part of something like that, [something] that a lot of people probably wouldn’t do, would be awesome.”
To participate in the Polar Plunge you must be at least ten years of age, and you must raise a minimum of 75 dollars by event day. The proceeds go out to benefit Missouri’s Special Olympic year-round sports program.
“I know some people who have done the Polar Plunge before and they said that it was so cool, in every sense of the word,” sophomore Lauren Bartram said. “I love doing things kind of out of the ordinary and running into a giant, freezing cold lake isn’t something many people would consider normal.”
Missouri’s 2014 Polar Plunge dates have already been posted and there are many dates and places you can choose from. Such as: Branson, MO, which will be held Feb. 15, 2014. Columbia, MO, which will be held Feb. 8, 2014. Kansas City, MO, which will be held Jan. 28, 2014, and many other dates. You can find all of the dates and registries on http://somo.org/plunge.
“I highly recommend that people do the Polar Plunge because it’s for a really good cause, the feeling alone that you get for doing something good for the community is enough for me to want to do it,” Bartram said. “And who wouldn’t want to dress up like complete dorks and run into freezing water with their friends.”
