On Jan. 24 the Lady Knights will face conference rival Howell Central at 6 p.m at Central in hopes to regain some momentum after a tough loss to Duschesne in the finals of the Warrenton tournament.
The Knights come into the game with a record of 8-5. After the Knights started out with a red hot 5-0 undefeated start they have hit a rough patch losing three of their last five. The Knights will face conference opponent and the struggling 2-6 Francis Howell Central Spartans. The Knights come into the game third place in the G.A.C. South trailing only Francis Howell (7-2) and Fort Zumwalt West (8-2). The Spartans have the fifth spot in the conference above only Timberland.
” I think we got a little cocky after our first five games so I think it was good to lose and get back to reality and start playing better basketball,” Senior Madison Gillam said.
After a 20-point blowout in the Warrenton tournament to Duchesne, the Lady Knights hope to get back on track with their game against Central. The Knights hope to bring their offensive game back on the court as they scored a season low 37 to Duchesne. The Knights will be looking towards their two top scorers, Senior Madison Gilliam (158 pts) and Sophomore Austin Pauley (156 pts), to make a difference in this game.
“I think we rely on them [Gillam and Pauley] when we get down to bring us back,” Senior Forward Anne Reiner said. “But they know we are also there if they get down.”
Although the the Spartans are 2-6 the Lady Knights feel it will be a good game. The Spartans are an aggressive squad who shouldn’t be underlooked according to the Knights. The Knights feel they have a good chance because the Spartans have lost a lot of their talent from last year but it will be a battle regardless.
“They are alright but we are expecting to win,” Senior guard Jessie Moceri said. “But we have to come out with a good attitude and give it our best.”
The Lady Knights will face Troy on Jan. 30 at home. The Lady Knights feel its a big game because a lot of north’s seniors have bad blood with the Indians. Especially after their lost to the Indians which came in the closing seconds of last years game.
“ I know it will be a good game because our seniors have hated troy since freshman year,” Reiner said.
