FHN’s girls swimming and diving team is nearing their last month of the 2013-2014 season. This years 21-member squad has participated in a total of seven meets, and only has five remaining until the Gateway Athletic Conference (GAC). Although they had setbacks in the season, such as the week of practices they lost because of the winter storm, the team has made serious improvement compared to their ability at the start of the season.
The team welcomed nine new members to their roster at the beginning of the year, three of them being juniors with little to no past swimming experience. One of which being Sherese Melvin.
“I do think I’ve improved this season, along with the rest of the team,” said Melvin. “I think the team as a whole has improved in their own ways, making us all better.”
The girls have been attending practices that go from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm every weeknight, with some exceptions since the season kicked off.
“I’ve been doing outside exercises other than swimming,” said senior Megan Hampson. “I’ve been lifting weights, core workouts and running.”
The team is continuing to grow their skill and endurance and is working hard in order to do well in GAC’s.
