Ecology Club is going out Feb. 2 to pick up trash and clean up the area. If the weather gets too rough, the trip will be rescheduled for the next week available when the weather is decent enough for outdoor work.
“We usually come across bottles and cans, basically anything from trash outside.” Ecology Club President Hannah Rosen said.
The ecology club gets together to organize a trash pick up when the think that some place needs cleaning. On previous occasions, Ecology club members have cleaned up at Creve Coeur, around the Family Arena, and places along the Katy Trail and Greens Bottom.
“We go out and pick up hazardous, radioactive waste and dead bodies in various areas [Laughs],” Ecology Club Sponsor Joe Brocksmith said. “Just typical litter, we call it litter.”
When students and sponsor Brocksmith go out, they collect as much litter as they can in a span of one or two hours. There isn’t a pre-determined spot where they clean up, they just choose a random area where they feel there is a considerable amount of trash.
“My favorite part about attending the trash pick up is, just knowing that you are cleaning up the environment and have fun doing it.” sophmore Yasmeen Belakhoua said.
