The Varsity Boys Basketball team faced off against conference opponent Fort Zumwalt West last Friday. Even after being down by nine points at half, the Varsity Boys Basketball team came back and defeated the Fort Zumwalt West Jaguars 62-58 on friday February 14 in a nail-biter.
“It feels amazing coming back from that and doing all we could do and putting our heads together and winning,” senior Terry White said.
The Knights came into this important conference game 5-0 in the conference while the Jaguars lie right behind them with a conference record of 4-1. The Jaguars quickly took the lead at the beginning of the game and kept the lead throughout the first half. After the start of the second half the Jaguars quickly got even a bigger lead but that did not stop the Knights. They quickly started their comeback and then the Jaguars added fuel to the fire of the comeback after #33 got a technical foul against White and the Jaguar fans chanted hurtful words against White.
“It’s always a bone head player on the other team,” White said. “He was just frustrated; it happens all the time, I just had to keep my composure and keep my head in the game.”
White kept his head in the game because he quickly got 6 straight points for the Knights to bring them even closer to the Jaguars. The Knights took the lead a few minutes into the fourth quarter and kept increasing the lead. Although with only a three minutes left the Jaguars made their own comeback bringing the game within two.
“This is when you have to coach,” Head Coach Darrell Davis said. “I have to remain calm and keep players calm,”
Even though the Jaguars gave the Knights a scare the team was able to remain calm and get rebounds and make free throws to give the Knights the win and advance to 6-0 in the conference. The Knights only have 6 conference games remaining until districts start in the first week of March.
“We are going to do what we have done all year and get better each game,” Davis said “I told them they could be happy about this game until midnight, then we have to think about our game against Howell Central on tuesday,”
