Last night, February 18, JV and Varsity Boys and Girls took on rival Howell Central for the second time this season. Not only did they sweep them the first time at Central, but they also swept them this time at North making it 8-0 against Central this season.
“It feels amazing to sweep them again,” Senior and Varsity girls basketball player Katlin Isbell said. “Central is always a good rival but in the end we will always come out on top”
The JV girls played first and topped the Spartans in a 45-15 win. The JV boys then topped the Spartans for the second time this season in a really close game 53-52. After those games, the Varsity girls took on Central. Last time the girls took on Central, it was a tightly contested game. This time though the Knights did not hold back and beat the Spartans 58-36.
“This game we pulled together as a team and played well together to get the win,” Isbell said.
Then came the Varsity Boys basketball game where the Knights defeated Central last time in another close game. The game last night was close to the same where the game went back and forth. The Knights quickly took a lead and end the first quarter up by five. The Spartans quickly came back and went up two and then the game went back and forth until the fourth quarter. They quickly took the lead and it kept increasing and they kept lead the rest of the game and won 56-48. One of the reasons why the team was able to take the lead was that senior James Gleeson hit three 3’s in the game and had a total of 23 points.
“It feels good know that I can help the team win and play well myself,” Gleeson said.
Along with Gleeson, senior Terry White got 13 points and the team went 20-26 from the line.
“I have to give our team the credit, we trailed midway but kept it a close game,” Head
Coach Darrell Davis said. “Our shot selection was better in the fourth quarter and of course the big one was hitting all the free throws.”
The team has 5 games left this and they hope to improve each game before Districts in two weeks. On the saturday before districts and the day after their final regular season game the team will be taking a trip to Columbia, Missouri to watch the Mizzou basketball team take on Ole Miss.
“This game will be nothing but positive, its a great bonding experience for the team and will help us gain confidence before the first game,” Davis said.
The next game for both Varsity boys and girls is tonight against Parkway North.
