On Feb. 27, 2014 students from Francis Howell North performed at the annual Coffee House in the FHN learning commons. Performers sung, read poetry, and played instruments. There was also a
live artist while others performed as well as different kinds of artwork all around the library.
“My favorite part was being able to see gifted people at north perform and express art in many different ways. It is weird to think I never realized people all around me at school have incredible talent and are willing to share with their peers.” Junior performer Alex Bohnert said.
Bohnert performed a poem called “My First Memory” by Nikki Giovanni and live painted during the performances. She said she got inspiration for paintings from the words she heard and the meaning behind the piece the participants were performing for Coffee House. To prepare for Coffee House, Bohnert borrowed art supplies from her teacher for her live painting. She also cleared her mind of any negative thoughts before she performed her poetry.
“I always feel like I am being judged when there is a big audience so I just stay focused and block out the criticisms.” Bohnert said.
Around 30 students participated in Coffee House and there were a lot of other people that helped out and made it go smoothly.
