The Varsity Boys Basketball team’s regular season came to an end on Feb. 28, 2014. The team went up against Troy Buchanan High School and finished their season strong with a final score of 55-39 against the Trojans.
“I think that overall we had a great game tonight and it was a very good way to end our season and go into districts,” head coach Darrell Davis said.
It was a rough start for the Knights at the beginning. At the end of the first period they were losing 11-2, but this was the only time that they were not in the lead. After making a comeback, the team held on to the lead till the very end of the game to get the win.
“We had a bad start because we weren’t working together really well,” junior guard Gabe Grote said. “After that though we started playing together and got into a rhythm which helped us get the win.”
The Varsity Knights ended with a record of 17 wins and eight losses for the regular season. In their conference they had nine wins and only one loss. The team is proud of this and are feeling confident going into districts. Fans are excited to see how their post-season will be like after the game tonight.
“I think that they did really good tonight,” junior Sierra Tuescher said. “ They tried really hard and worked well together and I think they’ll do good in districts.”
Varsity Knights basketball has their first districts game at Fort Zumwalt East on Mar. 4. They will be playing at 8:30 p.m. against Fort Zumwalt North. The team feels that tonight’s win was a great way to end the regular season, and an even better way to go into the post-season.
“The team did great tonight, but we are looking to improve on the start of our game in Tuesday,” Davis said. “This will help us out in not falling behind and making it harder for us in the long run.”
