On Feb. 28, 4th and 5th hour Intensified Theatre classes hosted their annual show. The doors opened at 6:30 p.m. and the show began at 7:00 p.m. The two classes had been working on their performances since the semester the beginning of winter break. The first play, performed by 4th hour, was Jake’s Women. The play is about Jake who not only ruined his life, but also the women involved who mean something to him. After the death of his wife Julie, Jake plays scenarios out in his head to see what he would like to happen. The stage is split between what is happening in the real world, and what is happening in Jake’s head. Jake struggles to find the balance between reality and his imagination, which could cost his relationship with his daughter Molly, and his current wife, Maggie.
After a short intermission, 5th hour performed The Outsiders. The Outsiders was based on the book of the same name, in which Ponyboy, his two older brothers Sodapop and Darrel, along with friends Johnny, Dallas, Two-Bit, and Steve are in a rivalry with the richer kids in town, the socs. After a confrontation at a fountain where two socs begin to dunk Ponyboy’s head into the fountain which ended in the death of a soc named Bob at the hands of Johnny. The two go on the run away to a church. After the church is set on fire, and Ponyboy, Dallas, and Johnny rescue children from the burning building. Johnny dies from injuries, and Ponyboy is forgiven in his part of the socs death. (photos by matt krieg and mckenzie shea)
