Varsity girl’s basketball will play their first round of districts tonight at 5:30 p.m. in the Fort Zumwalt East gym. The Lady Knights will be facing Fort Zumwalt North in hopes to continue on in the district tournament. “I’m most excited to see how far we can make it in districts,” sophomore guard Maci May said. “I don’t want the season to end yet.” The Lady Knights are ranked second in the district tournament and have practiced throughout the week. During Wednesday’s practice, coach Dawn Hawn motivated the team by telling the girls they need to practice as if they were playing the game. “I really think it fired me up more because I’m not ready for basketball to end,” senior forward Anne Reiner said. “Especially with the group of girls and all the talent that we have on the team.” During practices, the team has been working on shooting and defensive play they will run against FZN. The team has lost to FZN in past districts and according to senior guard Annelise Arger, it’s time for the girls to hopefully go on and win districts. “I hope to win every game we play,” May said. “But this one is particularly important because it’s our first round in districts and we own FZN a loss on their end.”
