High school basketball player Senior Madison Gillam has been playing Varsity basketball all four years of highschool at Francis Howell North. Madison first started out playing basketball at the YMCA around five years old. At the age of eleven years old, She decided to play club, which requires an all year commitment.
“I’ve had my ups and downs, but I wouldn’t change a thing,” Gillam said. “I’ve been able to grow a lot more as a basketball player and a person.”
Madison’s favorite part of the season was senior night because of all the people that came out to support them in one of their final games. She also thinks she is going to miss her teammates most of all.
“It’ll be weird going from seeing them ten hours or more a week to just saying hi to them in the hallways,” Madison said.
With Districts this week, and the end of the season right around the corner, this is a bittersweet time for Madison. She believes as long as the team stays focused, they have a great chance at winning districts.
“Basketball is so unlike any sport from how fast pace it is, to having to be able to think on your feet about any possible situation,” Gillam said,“ You have to play as a team, otherwise winning wouldn’t be possible.”
The Lady Knights play on Thursday at 5:30 against Fort Zumwalt North at Fort Zumwalt East. If they win, they will go to the championship on Saturday at one.
