On March 21, FHN’s varsity baseball team traveled to Fort Zumwalt South to play a Troy Tournament game. The game started at 4:00 p.m., and lasted for nearly three hours.
Dave Prost got the scoring started in the top of the first inning with a RBI double. FZS answered in the bottom half of the inning, scoring on a fielder’s choice and a two-run home run. The Bulldog’s lead did not last long, as the Knights came back in the top of the second with seven runs. Three triples were hit in the inning, one each by Ryan Clifton, Andrew Curran, and Ryan Mullarkey. Mullarkey’s triple came with the bases loaded. The score after two innings was 8-3, FHN on top.
FZS got two runs in the bottom of the second. One by a passed ball, and the other by a single. Starting pitcher Steven Deckard did not allow any more runs in the inning, and got out of a jam with men on 2nd and 3rd with only one out.
The Knights scored only one run in the top of the 4th inning, despite the bases being loaded with one out. FZS loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the 4th, and were only able to score once with a sacrifice fly.
In the top of the 5th, Dave Prost hit a two-run home run, which put FHN even further in the lead with the score 12-6.
The Bulldogs made a comeback though, in the bottom of the 7th. After four singles, FZS was within one run of tying the game. With men on 1st and 2nd and two outs, a ball hit to the shortstop hit the baserunner, which ended the rally, and also the game. The Knights won the game by the score of 13-12. (photos by matt krieg)
