On April 24, 19 of the 20 Chamber Choir, a.k.a. Knightsound, members, five chaperones, and choir teacher Lorraine Smith will be boarding a plane headed towards Tampa, Florida for their annual national competition. Knightsound, will be the only choir from Francis Howell North going to this competition. They will be staying in Tampa for three days and three nights and are scheduled to return on April 27. Knightsound has been taking trips like these for about six years, previously going to places like Nashville, Atlanta, and San Diego.
“Last year’s trip to San Diego was incredibly fun,” senior Raven Lechner said.
This year Knightsound will be performing their medley from Guys and Dolls that they previously performed at North’s Dinner Concert in September. The competition will take place at local Tampa high schools and awards will later be handed out at Busch Gardens.
“I’m most excited about Busch Gardens,” sophomore Luke Wessler said.
The trip will cost students $630 a person and has been paid for through fundraisers and monthly payments that started in January. There will be an informational meeting talking on activities and last minute plans on April 22, at 7 p.m.
“It’s always fun to compete and see what other schools do and get ideas from them,” Smith said. “I hope students gain performance experience, learn something from others performances and come back with something they can work on improving.”
