The varsity track team is planning to host the annual Friday Knight Relays this Friday, April 4. The relay meet is just for varsity players and the purpose is to add some different races in compared to the few events the team participates in during regular season meets.
“I like the team aspect of it, usually you head into a meet worried [about] yourself,” junior pole vaulter Dominique Meyer said. “But in relays everyone is counting on each other.”
Friday Knight Relays is only held at FHN and schools around the area are invited to participate. According to junior 800 meter runner Justin Levins, varsity has been preparing for the meet by practicing hard every day of the week, having a more relaxed practice before the meet day, which for Levins means practicing baton hand-offs and deciding on an order for the relay teams.
“I’m most looking forward to seeing how well our 4×800 meter team can do,” senior runner Jillian Fields said. “I think we’ve been working hard this season so far and I really want to see it pay off.”
The team looks forward to the relays every year and the events that are taking place.
“The relays are a big meet and running in very competitive races will help to improve race times for myself and the relay team,” Levin said.
Last year the Friday Knight Relays meet was cancelled because of bad weather. This year the weather isn’t looking much better but we will have to wait and see.
