The Bates Motel, now on its second season, has gotten well over 3 million views. The show is a prequel series of the
Alfred Hitchcock movie, Psycho. Bates Motel has peaked the charts for its ratings; it has received over 1.6 million demographic viewers and is being aired in 26 different countries.
Bates Motel is set years before the time of Psycho, but is portrayed in a more modern aspect, which helps with understanding some of the more complex subjects of the show.
The Bates family is hell in a handbasket, each one with their own set of issues. “Mommy Issues” would summarize the plot; Norman Bates’ overbearing manipulative mother, Norma Bates is the cause of all of his impulsive behavior. It’s hard not to get attached to this sociopathic murderer, he cares, but it always ends to one thing. Everything Norman does has an ulterior motive, which is his mother.
Everyone has experienced the typical guilt trips that mothers can deliver, but Norman’s mom takes the cake. Norma cares for her son, yet she does so in a selfish manner. Every decision Norman makes has to reflect well of his mother. She has to approve, even if she would never know.
The bates motel airs on A&E, monday nights at 10/9c. The second season is newly started, so there’s still time to catch up.
