Francis Howell North senior Matt Schneider was recently accepted into Harvard as an undergrad student. As of press time, Matt is
the only senior to be accepted into an Ivy League school.
“It was a real rush of excitement opening that email.” Schneider said. “The first word I saw was congratulations, so I figured it was going to be a positive email.”
Harvard, one of the most prestigious schools in the country, has an international acceptance rate of 5.8% and an acceptance rate of just over 3% within the St. Louis area. Schneider is one of 2,023 students who were admitted into the freshman class of 2018.
“Matt’s a real class leader, he’s someone who can take an event and run it.” Teacher Donna Malkmus said. “he’s very personable and easy to get along with, very humble, and willing to help students in need.”
Schneider will not be attending Harvard and has decided on attending Ohio State University. According to FHN college and career counselor Lisa Woodrum, the fact that he was accepted into an Ivy League school will continue to impact students as they’re applying to college.
“I’m excited for Matt because he’s worked really hard and has done a ton of research.” Woodrum said. “It’s good for FHN as a whole. I don’t know of a lot of students who applied to schools on the east coast, but I hope Matt’s acceptance propels students to apply for schools and reach their dreams, even if they aren’t as prestigious as Harvard.”
