FHN’s Dean of Students, Erin Steep, has been promoted to the Assistant Principal position left open after Assistant Principal Katie Greer was promoted to Associate Principal.
“I am very honored to have been given this opportunity,” Steep said. “I am excited because I know FHN is a place I want to stay and learn to become a better leader.”
Steep started out as a band director at Marquette High School for five years then came to Francis Howell North and became the dean of students. Steep said she was very happy to get a Dean position here because she learned a lot and it helped prepare her for the Assistant Principal position that she’s currently getting.
“I am very happy,” Steep said “I love it at FHN. It is a special school and I enjoy coming in everyday. This is the job everyone should have – one they love and with great people.”
Moving from the Dean of Students to an Assistant Principal will be quite a change for Steep. She says the Dean handles more discipline then the Assistant Principal and that she will lose about half of the students in her alphabet. While she said that will make her sad, she is looking forward to being able to work with more teachers and focus on the instructional part of being an administrator.
“Ms. Steep did a great job as our Dean of Students. She is very adept at communicating with all members of our community. She has done a phenomenal job of working to create a greater sense of student voice,” Downs said. “In addition, she has strong instructional skills and a strong desire to continue her own learning. Ms. Steep will do a great job in her new position.”
