Coming from the mind of Nathan Van Hook, one of the designers behind the Nike Air Yeezy II, the Nike Free Orbit II is one of the most unique sneakers that I’ve seen from Nike in quite some time. The shoes feature three dimensional geometric spikes that encompass the suede upper, along with the heel and the toecap. A mesh ventilation system along with a side zipper accompany the other features and all sit atop a speckled Nike Free 5.0 sole.
Compared to its predecessor, the Nike Lunar Orbit, the Free Orbit II is an improvement all around. I feel as if changing the upper to suede rather than mesh and emphasizing the geometric spikes gives the shoe a “standout” factor. Also, changing the sole from a Lunarlon to a Free 5.0 sole gives the shoe a slimmer profile which helps give the shoe a cleaner look
These shoes remind me of the Nike Free Inneva Wovens, which are some of my favorite runners to date. They both feature a speckled Free 5.0 sole, which is one of my favorite features that Nike uses. The Free Orbit IIs, like the Innevas, are both from Nike’s sportswear division, which means the shoes utilize premium materials.
Unfortunately, the Free Orbit II sold out upon release this past weekend, but may be restocked at some point in time. Be sure to check up with Nike Sportswear retailers such as CNCPTS or Saint Alfred to see if the shoes have been restocked. In the meantime, check out eBay, the shoes aren’t selling for much over retail.
