Lindsey Usry, a senior in AP Studio Art at FHN, received 1st place out of 20-25 other pieces of several schools in the area at the St. Louis County Regional Juried Art Show held April 26 at Lillian Yahn Art Gallery for her charcoal art piece.
)“Lindsey is a dedicated artist and is always working to improve and craft her style,” said Denise Maples, an art teacher at FHN. ”She is awesome working with portraiture and has great skill with value and realism.”
The piece Usry had drawn was a charcoal piece centered on a womans hands and collar bone.
“I guess the value and extreme contrast is what made the artwork stand out from the rest.” said Usry.
Usry had shown her artwork in several different shows in the past 2 years, but this was the first time she had placed first.
“I was very excited and surprised.” said Usry.
Although Usry has been working closely with art teachers the past four years, she plans to just expand her studies in a different area in college, and not pursue art as a career.
“I plan to just keep art as a hobby, and go to SCC after highschool” said Usry.
