The Howell North boys swim team is diving into a new season with a smaller, yet more experienced roster compared to years prior. The team practices five nights a week in preparation for their first meet.
On Tuesday, September 2, the boys’ swimming and diving team will compete in their first meet of the season against Fort Zumwalt West and Timberland. This year the team consists of six swimmers, only one of which being a new recruit. Last year the team had 11 members.
“Because we’re limited to a few events each, a smaller team isn’t necessarily good for our points and our meets,” senior Sean Pirrone said. “Everyone on the team actually has had experience with swimming though, which means we shouldn’t run into many individual losses.”
Although the swim team lost a few members this year, the diving team welcomed a new face to the roster. The diving team now consists of three divers.
Since the teams first meet is a tri-meet against two larger schools, FHN has a lot of competition ahead of them.
“Both teams are big and fast, so I’m not expecting FHN to win the meet, but I am expecting us to be competitors individually,” Pirrone said.
