The Homecoming pep assembly will take place on Friday, Sept. 26 during first and second hour classes in
the large gym. This year’s assembly will incorporate aspects of the Homecoming theme, fire and frost, in most of the games and activities, with the goal to get students excited for both the dance and the football game.
“We’re going to try to do some things with the Homecoming theme, but the whole point is to get
people pumped up for the game,” Cabinet member junior Baylie Clynes said.
One change to this year’s assembly will be the resurrection of the parade of athletes. StuCo decided to bring back the parade because many of the athletes were upset that the parade was missing from last year’s assembly. However, according to Sponsor Shelly Parks, StuCo hopes to add some life to the parade with a potential lighting display or glow sticks. They also hope to add more electronic elements to the assembly.
“I would definitely like the parade of athletes to be more inspiring and more fun,” Parks said. “I also want people to show positive school spirit and to get them excited for the Homecoming game and dance.”
Planning for the event began in early August when the committee chairs senior Risa Takenaka and juniors Priscilla Joel and Clynes started brainstorming for the assembly. Staples like the cheerleading, Knightline, and Studline performances will still occur at the assembly as well as the spirit meter and slide show. Currently the committee has a general idea of the games that will be played at the assembly, but details will be kept under wraps until then.
“Probably the hardest part about planning is how many ideas we have,” Clynes said. “Even though we have an hour and a half, we still have to plan things. The hardest part about running is keeping students involved and keeping school spirit up.”
Although planning is still under way, StuCo looks forward to assembly day and to student responses to the potential changes. With this assembly, StuCo hopes to build school spirit and anticipation for the game and dance.
“[I’m most excited about] finally winning the spirit meter, even though we should have since sophomore year,” Cabinet member senior Brenda Alvarado said. “Before we had the unofficial title, but now we’ll have the real deal.
